The Flint City Bucks have signed five Oakland University players for the upcoming USL League Two season pending league and federation approval.  Three debuted for the Bucks in 2020 (for television only) exhibition matches.

The Golden Grizzlies finished their 2020 season with an impressive 6-1-2 overall and conference record, advancing to the Horizon League Tournament.

Dylan Borczak | Senior | Midfielder

Borczak made his Bucks debut in 2019. The forward from Detroit played a significant role — entering three of four postseason matches en route to the USL2 title.

“I am looking forward to coming back to Kettering’s Atwood Stadium for another year for Flint City,” Borczak said. “I am excited to be able to represent the city, and I would love to bring another championship home to Flint again.”

Borczak will return to Flint sporting an enhanced resume after leading Oakland in points and assists his junior year, enough for All-Horizon League First Team honors.

“Winning the championship was mind-blowing honestly,” Borczak told The Oakland Post after the USL2 national championship game. “I didn’t expect to win, to be honest. I don’t think many other people expected us to win, but we pulled it off, somehow.”

Noah Jensen | Senior | Defensive Midfielder

Jensen was named team captain last season for the Golden Grizzlies, starting 18 matches. He ranked second in points and was named All-Horizon League Second Team.

While effective in attack, Jensen typically serves as the first line of defense. He started an impressive 46 matches through his first three years at Oakland.

The native of Courtice, Ontario, previously served as captain for two years at Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School. His team won two regional championships.

Mikey Ketteman | Sophomore | Forward

Ketteman scored the Bucks’ first two goals of 2020 during an 8-0 win over Midwest United FC. The next week, he added another eventual match-winner against Carpathia FC.

“I am very excited to be joining the Bucks this summer,” Ketteman said. “It is an exciting stepping stone in my career, and I look forward to helping this team continue to be a national championship caliber side.”

Bucks head coach Andy Wagstaff commented last summer on Ketteman, who he recruited and eventually coached at Oakland: “He’s powerful, strong, (has a) winning mentality and (is) just the kind of player you want from an attitude perspective. He’s got a chance — no doubt.”

Ketteman appeared in 12 games his freshman year with the Golden Grizzlies, recording two goals and an assist. Previously, he captained Portage Central High School for two seasons.

Adam McAleenan | Sophomore | Defender/Midfielder

McAleenan was recently named team captain for Oakland in just his second year with the program. The versatile defensive player started 18 matches the previous season — anchoring a back line that earned five shutouts and eventually being named to the all-league freshman team.

The standout performance earned McAleenan All-Horizon League First Team honors.

Hailing from Crossgar, he was a regular for the Northern Ireland youth national teams from U-15 through U-19. He also played with clubs Glentoron FC, Crusaders FC, and Ards FC.

“I’m really looking forward to playing with the Bucks this summer,” McAleenan said. “I wasn’t able to get the season in Flint I was hoping for last summer but was lucky to get a couple of games in during the friendlies, so I’ve been itching to get back at Atwood ever since. I’m also looking forward to playing under Coach Wagstaff again, who has been a huge part of my American experience thus far. But of course, what excites me most is the opportunity to play on the biggest stage in USL2, with the best team, and to keep the national championship at Atwood.”

Michael Sly | Commit | Goalkeeper

Sly recorded two consecutive shutouts in defense of Atwood Stadium as the Bucks closed their 2020 exhibition schedule against UPSL sides Rebels FC and Inter Detroit FC.

“Michael is a guy who approached us when he found out we were playing exhibition matches,” coach Wagstaff noted at the time. “He’s a very outgoing young man and obviously a very talented goalkeeper playing with the Michigan Wolves MLS Academy program.”

The native of Grand Blanc is committed to Oakland after 2021 graduation.
