Ault to return to Flint City after recent MLS SuperDraft selection

Flint, Mich. — The Flint City Bucks have re-signed MLS-drafted Palmer Ault for the upcoming USL League Two season, pending league and federation approval.

Ault was selected by Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids with the 34th overall pick in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft. Colorado now holds his MLS rights through 2025.

On the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy watch list as a sophomore, Ault led Butler University with six goals this past fall. Post-season, the speedy winger was named to the United Soccer Coaches east regional team and the Big East Conference second team.

Ault debuted for the Bucks in 2023 after a blistering start to his college career, when he was unanimously picked as Big East Freshman of the Year after tallying 10 goals and 6 assists to lead the Bulldogs. He was named to the conference and regional first teams.

He scored five goals and six assists for Flint City last summer.

“Palmer made an immediate impact when he joined the Bucks in 2023,” said Bucks head coach Paul Doroh. “He is a top-quality player with the ability to unlock defenses and create goals. We were not certain he would return to the Buck, with all the attention that he received from the professional ranks, but we are delighted to have him back. Getting a player like Palmer back is huge. Not only does he bring his individual quality, but he has experience in the USL2 and understands the Bucks expectations and style of play. We’re very excited.”

Primarily a striker, Ault can also play as a winger or attacking midfielder. The native of Noblesville, Indiana, made his USL Championship (second division) debut in 2022, appearing in three matches for Indy Eleven. His club resume features Indy Eleven’s academy, Indiana Fire Pro Academy’s MLS Next U-19 squad, and Indy Premier Soccer Club.

Ault had 67 goals and 39 assists, both school records, in four standout years at Noblesville High School. He led his team to a state title and two conference championships. A three-time all-state first-teamer, Ault was named Indiana Soccer Coaches Association Player of the Year in 2021. He was twice voted to the United Soccer Coaches All-American Team.
