Miller led Michigan with 1,600 minutes played and 6 shutouts in 2023

The Flint City Bucks have re-signed prominent center back Nolan Miller for the upcoming USL League Two season, pending league and federation approval.

“I’m very excited going into this year’s campaign,” Miller said. “The beginning of last year was brilliant at Flint for me. The fans and atmosphere inside of Kettering’s Atwood Stadium for a USL2 team is more than I ever imagined and was a main pull in coming back to Flint. Last year, I had a groin injury that sidelined me for much of the season, so this year I’m excited to play a bigger role in the squad. I grew up going to games for what was once the Michigan Bucks, so to get to the point of being able to play for the team is very memorable for me.”

The University of Michigan sophomore debuted for the Bucks in 2023, starting four matches alongside Hugo Bacharach before losing the season due to injury.

“Nolan is a great center back,” said Bucks head coach Paul Doroh. “His positioning and game intelligence make him a real asset to the team. His ability to anticipate the attacker’s actions and his fearless nature allow him to break up a lot of otherwise promising attacks from the opposition. He’s calm and composed on the ball.

“Those attributes, together with his ability to break lines with accurate passes, allow him to help calm the game down when needed and start his team’s attack. I anticipate Nolan will be a major contributor to the Bucks’ back line this summer.”

In the fall, he started all 18 matches, leading the Wolverines with 1,615 minutes played. He helped Michigan to six shutouts and a Big Ten semifinal appearance.

Miller was named to the Big Ten second team, as well as the conference academic team and the United Soccer Coaches north regional third team.

The native of Troy, Michigan, was named to the Big Ten all-freshman team in 2022, when he again paced the Wolverines in minutes played with 1,408.

Before college, Miller gained experience in the Columbus Crew (MLS) academy system, appearing for the MLS Next Pro side as a member of the U-19 team. He previously played for the Vardar U-17 MLS Next Academy, which claimed a national title in 2018.
