CF Montreal selection returns to Flint City this summer

The Flint City Bucks have re-signed MLS-drafted Malik Henry for the upcoming USL League Two season, pending league and federation approval.

“I’m super excited to be back in Flint this summer,” Henry said in a note addressed directly to Bucks fans. “I can’t wait to see what this season has in store for us!”

Henry was selected by Major League Soccer’s CF Montréal with the 39th overall pick in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft. Montréal now holds his MLS rights through 2025.

Debuting for the Bucks in summer 2023, the Canadian international from Hamilton, Ontario, excelled at every position along the right side of the pitch.

“Malik is a quiet personality whose play on the field speaks loudly,” Bucks head coach Paul Doroh said. “He’s quick, to say the least, and clever on the ball. His contribution to the Bucks last summer helped us have the success that we did.”

As a junior for the University of Akron this past fall, Henry was key to one of the NCAA’s best defenses. The Zips recorded 10 clean sheets (the top mark in the Big East Conference) and a 0.67 goals against average. Henry, who appeared in 14 matches, was named to the United Soccer Coaches east regional third team and the Big East second team.

“He’s dynamic in the attack and is always a threat,” Doroh said. “He really is an explosive player. Players like Malik allow us to play the style that we want and that the fans have come to expect from the Bucks: thrilling, fast-paced, exciting, and lots of action in front of the opponent’s goal. I’m delighted to be able to work with Malik again this summer.”

Henry has now amassed 12 assists in three seasons at Akron. He earned Mid-American Conference post-season honors twice before the Zips moved leagues.

Previously, the versatile Henry was part of the Canadian youth national team at the U-15 level. He also has experience with the academy at Toronto FC of MLS.
