Bucks sign German defender Jonas Buechte

Bucks welcome standout German defender Jonas Buechte

The Flint City Bucks have signed Jonas Büechte for the upcoming USL League Two season, pending league and federation approval.

“I am very excited to play for the Bucks this upcoming summer,” Büechte said. “I know about the great atmosphere at home games, with the great fan culture the club has. We’ll have a strong team that will be aiming to win it all. I can’t wait to get started.”

This past fall, the junior center back and holding midfielder helped the University of Akron to one of the NCAA’s best defensive marks. The Zips recorded 10 clean sheets (leading the Big East Conference) and a 0.67 goals against average.

Büechte started 18 matches and tallied three assists. He was named to the United Soccer Coaches east regional third team and Big East second team.

Before college, the Rantingen, Germany, native played in the Fortuna Düsseldorf academy, winning regional cup titles at both U-17 and U-19 levels.

He’s now a three-year starter for Akron with a goal and eight assists to his name. In 2022, he was named to the Mid-American Conference first team. In 2021, he was listed by TopDrawerSoccer.comamong the NCAA’s top freshmen.

Büechte has prior USL2 experience with Des Moines Menace.
